What type of fuel should I use for my generator?

It depends on the type of generator being used.

Diesel generators cover the entire spectrum from 10 KW up to over 2500 KW. A generator using diesel fuel typically requires more permits due to EPA regulations. Diesel fuel must be replenished as needed. This can be cumbersome and there is a potential for spillage.

Natural gas and Propane (LP) generators are typically available up to 400 KW (although the initial cost is higher than diesel generators above 150kw). Gaseous generators can be convenient if there is a constant fuel source available. If not, a tank will need to be installed and must be replenished as needed. Natural Gas lines can be shut off during a catastrophe such as a hurricane. Dual gaseous fuel systems, using both natural and propane, can be provided.
